Kimolos: The Churches<\/h3>\n

[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”25px”][vc_column_text]Despite its small size, Kimolos is full of churches.<\/p>\n

More than eighty churches are scattered all over the island, witness the faith and religious feeling of the people of the island.<\/p>\n

Many are truly unique for their architectural value and\u00a0 their icons.<\/p>\n

Most of the churches of Kimolos were built in XVI and XVII century,\u00a0 and according to reports of travelers of that\u00a0 period, the churches had bells\u00a0 then.<\/p>\n

Eight churches are protected by the Ministry of Culture. One of them, \u201dGennissi tou Christou\u201d (the Birth of Christ) (1592) is located in the inner Castle, six\u00a0 are around the castle, \u201cChrysostomos\u201d (St. John Chrysostom),\u00a0 \u201cPanagia Konomou\u201d (Virgin Mary), \u201cTaxiarches\u201d\u00a0 (Archangel), \u201cChrysopigi\u201d (Virgin Mary, the source of life), \u201dSotira\u201d (Christ, the Saviour), \u201cAgii Anargiri\u201d\u00a0 and the eighth, \u201cPantokrator\u201d is on the top of the\u00a0 Xaplovouni hill.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”25px”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row css_animation=”” row_type=”row” use_row_as_full_screen_section=”no” type=”full_width” angled_section=”no” text_align=”left” background_image_as_pattern=”without_pattern”][vc_column]
