The beaches of Kimolos<\/h2>\n

Kimolos: A silver stroke in the Aegean sea
\n<\/span><\/h4>\n

 <\/p>\n

Sailors of the Medieval Age, Venetians and Franks used to call the island \u201cArgentiere\u201d which means Silver Island, probably due to its silver white stones.<\/span>
\n\u201cKimolos\u201d is an ancient name which means \u201cwhite stone\u201d and it was always in use by the natives.<\/span>
\nIn the ancient time it was also called \u201cEchinoussa\u201d (island of the sea urchins), due to its, full of life, sea.<\/span><\/h5>\n
The sea is still clear and blue. It keeps numerous species of seaweeds, meadows of Posidonia oceanica, many kinds of fishes and invertebrates as well as monk seals, dolphins and sea turtles.<\/span>
\nYou can swim almost everywhere. You’ ll be excited! Still, we have some suggestions to make:<\/span><\/h5>\n

From the North to the Southwest, clockwise (see the map), the following beaches are really beautiful and easy to access. These beaches have connection to \u201cChorio\u201d by regular bus services and have canteens\/ restaurants:<\/span><\/h4>\n

Prassa (Agios Georgios)<\/span><\/h5>\n

White, coarse sand in and out of the sea, turquoise sea, loved by many. There are some sea caves under the church of St. George (Agios Georgios), where the monk seals breed in the autumn. Psathi<\/span><\/h5>\n

Psathi is the port of Kimolos but also a beach. It is a busy, lovely place with local colour. Actually, there is a small salt pan which keeps numerous birds in the spring and autumn, but it is drained in the summer. Sand and pebbles. Next to Bonatsa, Kalamitsi is in fact two beaches, one sandy and one with pebbles, with many tamarisks. It is facing the Kimolos \u2013 Milos channel. You can go by walking (1h 30′), driving (preferably with a jeep) or sailing. The sea taxi makes a round \u2013 the – island tour and stops there for a swim. Sandy beaches, wonderful sea bottom.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”25px”][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/3″]

Rema, Goupa<\/span><\/h5>\n

Close to the Chorio, one next to the other. Rema looks like a natural swimming pool, with a nice scenery: \u201csirmata\u201d, caves carved in the mild rock to keep the boats. Rocks shape natural caves, bridges and a big sitting elephant. Pebbles. Sandy sea bottom at the depth of 1m and more. Goupa is a fishermen’s settlement with sirmata.
